Overview
Sometimes you want to compress an entire track. Other times, you only want to control the low end, smooth out a harsh frequency, or bring certain parts of a sound forward. Parametric Compressor gives you the freedom to do all of that, with independent compression bands you can place anywhere in the frequency spectrum. Unlike a traditional multiband compressor that divides your audio into separate frequency ranges, Parametric Compressor lets you choose exactly where each band operates and how wide it should be. Keep a band narrow to target a specific frequency, widen it to control a larger area, or expand it to the full spectrum for traditional broadband compression. You can even overlap multiple bands, giving you different layers of compression working together on the same frequencies. Each band has its own Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release, and Makeup controls, so you can shape the compression independently. Tighten the low end of a drum bus, control harsh frequencies in a vocal, add consistency to a bass guitar, or work with several frequency ranges at once. Whether you're making subtle adjustments or building a more involved compression setup, you have the flexibility to get the response you're after. One of the most useful features is the ability to choose what triggers each compressor. A band can respond to your main audio, an external sidechain, or both. You can also choose whether the compressor listens to its selected frequency range or the full signal. For example, you could make a compressor targeting the low end of a bass respond to an external kick drum, or have a narrow frequency band react to the overall level of a vocal. You're not limited to compressing a frequency range based only on what's happening inside that range. The interactive spectrum display makes it easy to see what you're doing. Add bands directly to the graph, drag them to the frequencies you want to work with, and adjust their width while watching the spectrum and compression activity. With up to ten independent bands, you can keep things simple or build more detailed compression setups without losing track of what's happening. Whether you're mixing vocals, shaping drums, controlling bass, or working on an entire mix, Parametric Compressor gives you a different way to approach dynamics. Use it like a traditional compressor, a flexible multiband compressor, or for frequency-selective processing similar to a dynamic EQ. You can even combine these approaches in the same instance. Available as a VST3 compressor plugin for Windows and in VST3 and AU formats for macOS.
Highlights
Place up to ten independent compressor bands anywhere in the frequency spectrum for precise, flexible dynamics control.
Overlap bands freely, target narrow frequency ranges, or expand bands to full spectrum for traditional compression.
Give each band its own Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release, and Makeup settings to shape exactly how it responds.
Choose what triggers each compressor with main input, external sidechain, and full-spectrum or frequency-specific detection options.
Available for Windows (VST3) and macOS (VST3 and AU).
Controls
Adds a new compressor band to the frequency spectrum. Create up to ten independent bands, each with its own position, width, and compression settings. Use just one for a simple adjustment or several for more detailed dynamics shaping.
Removes the currently selected compressor band. Use it to simplify your setup or remove a band you no longer need.
Sets the center frequency of the selected compressor band. Move it lower to work with bass and low-end energy, or higher to target midrange presence, harshness, and other upper-frequency details. You can also position bands directly on the spectrum display.
Controls how much of the frequency spectrum the selected band processes. Keep it narrow to focus compression on a specific frequency area, or widen it to affect a broader range. At its maximum setting, the band becomes a full-spectrum compressor, allowing you to apply traditional broadband compression alongside your frequency-selective bands.
Sets the level where the selected compressor begins reducing gain. Lower the Threshold to apply compression more frequently, or raise it to focus on louder parts of the detected signal. Each band has its own Threshold, so you can control different frequency ranges independently.
Controls how strongly the selected band compresses audio once the detected signal exceeds the Threshold. Lower ratios provide gentle, natural-sounding control, while higher ratios apply firmer compression. Use it to smooth out dynamics or create a more pronounced effect.
Adjusts how quickly the selected compressor responds when the detected signal crosses the Threshold. Faster settings catch peaks more quickly, while slower settings allow more of the initial attack to come through. Try a slower Attack when you want to preserve punch, or a faster setting for tighter control.
Controls how quickly the selected band stops reducing gain after the detected signal falls below the Threshold. Shorter settings let the compressor recover quickly, while longer settings create a smoother, more gradual response. Adjust it to match the rhythm and feel of the material you're processing.
Adjusts the level of the selected frequency range after compression. Use it to restore volume lost through gain reduction or to bring that part of the sound forward. Since each band has its own Makeup control, you can independently balance different frequency areas as you work.
Uses the plugin's main audio input to trigger compression for the selected band. This is the standard setting when you want the compressor to respond to the track it's processing.
Uses an external sidechain signal to trigger compression instead of the main input. For example, you could use a kick drum to trigger compression on the low frequencies of a bass track, helping the two instruments work together without compressing the entire bass signal. The external signal controls when compression happens but isn't added to the audio output.
Uses both the main input and external sidechain to trigger the selected compressor. This gives you the flexibility to make a band respond to activity from either source while processing only the original audio. The two signals are combined for detection, not mixed together in the audible output.
Makes the compressor respond primarily to activity within its selected frequency range. For example, a band targeting the low end will react to the low-frequency energy in its detector source rather than the entire signal. Great for controlling specific frequencies only when they become more prominent.
Makes the selected compressor listen to the full detector signal, even when it's processing only a narrow frequency range. This lets you control one part of the spectrum based on what's happening across the entire signal. For example, you could have a band targeting upper-mid frequencies respond to the overall level of a vocal instead of only the energy in those upper mids.
Blends the compressed signal with your original audio. Keep it at 100% for full processing, or lower it to bring some of the original dynamics back into the sound. Great for parallel compression when you want extra control or density while preserving more of the natural performance.
Adjusts the final volume after all compression bands and Mix processing. Use it to balance your processed audio with the rest of your mix or match the original level for more accurate comparisons.
Turns Parametric Compressor's processing on or off. Use it to quickly compare your processed and original sound without removing the plugin from your signal chain.
